Apps
In common usage, the term app is short for application on smart phones and tablet computers. Tablet operating systems have
their own online shops, where such apps are available and can be installed directly. Examples are the Android Market for
Android tablets and the Apple App Store for the iPad.
Widgets
Widgets are small but often very useful assistants (programs) directly on the desktop. This can be time, calendar, weather,
RSS news feeds, virtual notepad etc. or even a switch, for example to activate or deactivate the WLAN. Widgets are usually a separate component of
graphical window systems. The user gets informations on the surface of the application window and can input data.
